Spiritual Nourishment: Finding the True Bread of Life
This Sunday I'll be preaching on Jesus as the bread of life from John 6:32-35. In this passage, Jesus tells the crowd that while Moses gave them manna from heaven, it is God the Father who gives the true bread of heaven through Jesus Christ. Jesus declares "I am the bread of life."
In the sermon, we'll explore what it means for Jesus to be our spiritual nourishment and "bread of life." Just as our physical bodies need food each day for energy and health, our spirits need consistent spiritual nourishment. However, it's easy in our busy lives to forget this important nourishment through prayer, scripture, worship, and community.
I'll be challenging us to consider: Are we feeding ourselves regularly with the "bread of life"? Are we creating space for spiritual nourishment amidst the hustle of daily life? How might nourishing our spirits more intentionally allow us to experience a greater sense of peace, purpose, and joy?
As you read and reflect on John 6 this week, here are some questions to ponder:
• What are some practical ways you can "taste and see that the Lord is good" each day?
• What spiritual disciplines help nourish and strengthen your spirit most?
• How might you remind yourself daily of your deep spiritual hunger that only Christ can satisfy?
I look forward to exploring this life-giving passage together on Sunday. Let's prepare our hearts to be fed and nourished by the bread of heaven.
